While in California, it would be amiss not to incorporate one of the world's classic and iconic road trips, travelling along the breath-taking Pacific Coast highway and visiting San Francisco, the epitome of laid-back Californian cool. Alternatively head to balmy Palm Springs and indulge in some relaxation time, or maybe the Orange County is calling - stay in one of the fashionable beach districts, such as Laguna or Newport. With LA conveniently providing a central hub within the States you could feasibly extend and explore any part of the States which appeals to you!

More on British Polo Day USA

The Will Rogers Polo Club is located in Pacific Palisades, overlooking the ocean. The park was originally the private estate of Will Rogers; famed humorist, newspaper columnist, movie star, and polo player. In fact, the Will Rogers polo field is the last remaining field in Los Angeles California.

The current Club Chairman is Andrew Bossom, who is a retired British Army Officer and Old Etonian. He has kindly extended an invitation to The Directors of British Polo Day to hold the inaugural BPD USA at this iconic location, right in the heart of Los Angeles, on Saturday 31st May 2014. British Polo Day’s endeavours to celebrate and champion luxury heritage around the globe have led to Lord and Lady Frederick Windsor accepting the role of British Representatives for BPD USA.

The USA is one of the three largest global polo hubs in the world – with Great Britain and Argentina the other two – and the first match will see Eton play against Will Rogers Polo Club and the second encounter will be Oxbridge versus Ivy League.

Polo in the USA is long established, with James Gordon Bennett having bought the game to New York in 1876. In 1886 was the first time a touring British team played in the USA when they beat the US team in the first Westchester Cup match at Newport, Rhode Island. In the 1930s, crowds of over 30,000 regularly attended matches at the Meadowbrook Polo Clubon Long Island.

With Ralph Lauren having indelibly etched the aspirations and lifestyle of polo on the national psyche, the British Polo Day team is looking forward to celebrate the history and heritage of the game across the Atlantic.
